1740 Club

What’s the difference between the 1740 Club and the SigEp Vision Capital Campaign?

With so much excitement over our new chapter facility on its way it is easy to overlook the 1740 Club. Many have asked the same question over the past two years, “What is the difference between the 1740 Club and the SigEp Vision Capital Campaign?”

In 2002 the 1740 Club was started to help promote general scholarships for existing and incoming undergraduates. The effort was simple. Each year alumni with good addresses would receive a mailing asking for a donation in the amount of $17.40. The $17.40 was chosen to reflect the address of the best Fraternity on campus at Wichita State University. In the first year the 1740 Club raised $2,192. The amount included many donations that were more than the minimum request. Since its inception 50% of the funds generated through the 1740 Club have been given out annually, primarily to the Bob Tolleson Balanced Man Scholarship, and the remaining amount carried forward to the next year. Over the past 6 years we have given out over $11,000 in scholarships. An individual’s 1740 Club donation is 100% tax deductible.

With the SigEp Vision Capital Campaign still underway our focus has shifted but we have not forgotten the efforts of the 1740 Club. Mainly in part to the goal of the 1740 Club. Whereas many of the alumni would rather place their donation with the future chapter house at this time they know that the Capital Campaign will eventually come to an end. When that time comes, those wishing to continue support will still have the same opportunity to do so through the 1740 Club and undergraduate scholarships. However, those still wishing to continue their 1740 Club participation during the capital campaign are more than welcome to do so.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the 1740 Club.
